As the name implies, I was instructed to "Get a hobby". I was keenly interested in 3D printing and printers as a way to tinker and make. One machine became 2 and those 2 were swapped for printers that I didn't have to fix all the time and I was off and running. Now I get to talk about 3D printing whilst being surrounded by dragons...so all-in-all not such a bad gig.
